Why Your Body Might Be Holding On to Weight — And How Kinesiology Can Help

A client messaged me recently to say she’d lost 1.5 stone after her kinesiology session — without dieting. All we did was identify a couple of everyday foods her body was reacting to. Once she removed them, her system could finally settle, heal, and recalibrate.

It reminded me how many women tell me they’re doing everything right and still can’t lose weight. From a kinesiology perspective, stubborn weight is often a sign that the body is under strain and trying to protect itself.

When chemistry, emotions, digestion, structure, or energy are out of balance, the body can hold on to weight — even with the strictest diet.

Why Weight Can Be Hard to Shift

Most people assume weight loss is simply “eat less, move more”. But if the body isn’t getting the right fuel, nutrients, or emotional support, it cannot regulate weight effectively.

Common underlying factors I see in clinic:

  • unstable blood sugar

  • mineral deficiencies

  • digestive stress

  • inflammation

  • emotional pressure

  • poor sleep

  • food sensitivities

  • stress hormones keeping weight around the middle

When these are addressed, weight often begins to shift naturally.

Kinesiology‑Informed Supports for Healthy Weight Loss

These work with your body, not against it.

1. Protein for breakfast

Stabilises blood sugar, reduces cravings, and supports steady energy. Examples:

  • protein shake or Greek yogurt with fruit

  • eggs on sourdough toast

Balanced blood sugar is one of the most important foundations for weight loss.

2. Trace minerals

Modern farming has depleted minerals from the soil, and supplementation can help regulate appetite naturally.

A Chinese mineral‑herb blend is one of the most effective I’ve seen: https://lilyandloaf.com/products/chinese-herb-mineral-blend

3. Water — but not with meals

Aim for around two litres daily. Drink:

  • up to 20 minutes before food

  • at least 1 hour after food

This supports digestion rather than diluting stomach acid. If you lose water quickly or retain it, omega oils may help.

4. Reduce raw foods temporarily

Raw foods can be inflaming when the body is stressed. They may:

  • keep weight on

  • prevent weight loss

  • contribute to constipation or loose bowels

Cooked fruits and vegetables are gentler and easier to digest.

5. Remove processed sugars

Sweet treats, alcohol, white grains, and processed foods convert straight into sugar and disrupt weight regulation.

Strong sugar cravings can also indicate candida imbalance — something kinesiology can help identify and support.

6. Emotional stress release

Stress affects weight more than most people realise.

Try this: Place one hand on your forehead and the other on the back of your head. Think of your stress while breathing deeply. This calms the nervous system and supports digestion.

7. Eat dinner sitting at a table — and early

Preferably before 7pm. An upright, relaxed posture supports digestion, sleep, and weight regulation.

8. Sleep — the hidden weight tool

Aim for bed at 10pm or earlier. Getting at least 1.5 hours of sleep before midnight helps regulate stress hormones and reduce weight around the middle.

9. Blood group diet (my personal project!)

This is one I haven’t cracked doing yet, but it’s very popular in kinesiology circles. You don’t need to follow the full plan — just work with the major avoids and beneficial foods for your blood group.

A: red meat, potatoes, wheat, milk, cow’s cheese, bananas, tomatoes B: chicken, duck, pork, wheat, tomatoes, bananas AB: caffeine, pork, corn, wheat, peppers O: wheat, milk, potatoes, corn, cow’s cheese, lentils, kidney beans

Honestly, just Google “blood group diet A/B/AB/O” and skim the major avoids and beneficial foods. Even small tweaks can make a noticeable difference.

Food Intolerance Testing

Kinesiologists can test food intolerances using a simple muscle test. Many clients find that when they avoid foods their body doesn’t like, weight loss becomes much easier.

These Can Work Within One Month

Many clients see changes within a month when their body is supported properly. When the system is balanced, weight loss becomes more natural and sustainable.
