The two-hour slot for each meridian is as follows:
3–5 AM — Lung
5–7 AM — Large Intestine
7–9 AM — Stomach
9–11 AM — Spleen
11 AM–1 PM — Heart
1–3 PM — Small Intestine
3–5 PM — Bladder
5–7 PM — Kidney
7–9 PM — Heart
9–11 PM — Triple Warmer
11 PM–1 AM — Gallbladder
1–3 AM — Liver
If you have a recurring issue during one of these time slots—particularly if you tend to wake at a certain time each night—looking at the meridian clock can offer valuable insight.
3–5 AM — Lung Meridian
Emotionally, this is the hour of grief and vulnerability. If you wake during this time, your body may be processing sadness—not just from recent events, but from long-held emotional residue. It’s a time when the veil is thin, and suppressed emotions may rise gently to the surface.
Physically, you might notice tightness in the chest, shallow breathing, coughing, or sinus congestion. These symptoms often reflect the body’s attempt to release and clear.
5–7 AM — Large Intestine Meridian
Emotionally, this is about release—letting go of what no longer serves you. If you feel mentally stuck, resistant to change, or emotionally constipated, your system may be holding on too tightly.
Physically, sluggish bowels, bloating, or difficulty with elimination are common. This is a powerful time to support detox and emotional clarity.
7–9 AM — Stomach Meridian
Emotionally, worry and overthinking can dominate. You may feel mentally busy, anxious, or unable to settle into the day.
Physically, this is prime digestion time. If you skip breakfast or eat under stress, you might experience nausea, acid reflux, or heaviness in the stomach.
9–11 AM — Spleen Meridian
Emotionally, this time reflects over-caring and emotional depletion. If you’ve been giving too much without replenishment, you may feel drained or anxious.
Physically, symptoms like fatigue, bloating, or difficulty concentrating may appear. The spleen governs nutrient absorption and mental clarity—both can suffer when you’re emotionally overextended.
11 AM–1 PM — Heart Meridian
Emotionally, this is the window for joy, connection, and emotional openness. If you feel disconnected, overwhelmed, or emotionally flat, your heart energy may be low.
Physically, palpitations, restlessness, or chest discomfort may arise. This is a beautiful time to connect with others or engage in something that brings you genuine joy.
1–3 PM — Small Intestine Meridian
Emotionally, this time supports discernment—sorting through what’s nourishing and what’s not. If you feel indecisive, mentally cluttered, or emotionally confused, your system may be struggling to process.
Physically, indigestion, brain fog, or bloating may show up. This meridian helps us assimilate both food and experiences.
3–5 PM — Bladder Meridian
Emotionally, fear and rigidity can surface. You may feel tense, anxious, or emotionally braced against something.
Physically, back pain, urinary issues, or tight muscles may reflect bladder meridian stress. Hydration and gentle movement can be especially helpful here.
5–7 PM — Kidney Meridian
Emotionally, this is the time of deep reserves—willpower, resilience, and ancestral energy. If you feel emotionally fragile or depleted, your kidneys may be asking for rest.
Physically, low energy, adrenal fatigue, or hormonal imbalances may appear. This is a time to nourish and restore.
7–9 PM — Heart Meridian
Emotionally, this meridian protects the heart. Vulnerability, intimacy, and emotional safety are key themes. If you feel guarded, restless, or emotionally exposed, your system may be navigating boundaries.
Physically, restlessness, chest tension, or difficulty winding down may occur. This is a time for emotional gentleness and connection.
9–11 PM — Triple Warmer Meridian
Emotionally, this time supports integration and communication. If you feel overstimulated, scattered, or unable to switch off, your system may be overloaded.
Physically, feeling wired, hot flashes, or difficulty sleeping may show up. This is a good time to unplug and allow your body to recalibrate.
11 PM–1 AM — Gallbladder Meridian
Emotionally, this is the hour of courage and decision-making. If you feel stuck, resentful, or hesitant, your gallbladder energy may be blocked.
Physically, insomnia, headaches, or tension in the neck and shoulders may reflect gallbladder imbalance. Supporting clarity and self-trust is key.
1–3 AM — Liver Meridian
Emotionally, anger, frustration, and suppressed emotions often rise here. If you wake during this time feeling agitated or emotionally charged, your body may be trying to detox—not just physically, but emotionally.
Physically, night waking, vivid dreams, hormonal shifts, or digestive discomfort may appear. The liver is your body’s master detoxifier—and it works hard during these hours.
In kinesiology, we can test muscles that are on these meridians (or circuits) and identify imbalances that need addressing, then look at correcting the problem. The added insight of the meridian clock can powerfully enhance our ability to uncover underlying issues and support better health and sleep.
