Meridian Tapping Therapy (MTT): A Gentle Pathway to Emotional Rewiring

Meridian Tapping Therapy, or MTT, is a deeply effective emotional technique—similar to EFT—that helps us access the subconscious mind and gently clear old, unhelpful beliefs. By combining focused statements with acupressure tapping, MTT supports the body in releasing emotional patterns that no longer serve us.

What Is Meridian Tapping Therapy?

By tapping on specific acupressure points while acknowledging our thoughts and feelings, we create a powerful opportunity for emotional change. Although it may seem simple, here’s what’s going on beneath the surface:

  • Tapping on acupressure points helps calm the nervous system and lower cortisol, even while we’re discussing difficult emotions.
  • This helps the brain learn that the trigger is no longer dangerous.
  • Over time, this process helps re‑wire emotional responses.
  • Because tapping works with the subconscious mind, it reaches the deeper “filing cabinets” where old emotional memories and patterns are stored.
  • As we tap and talk, it’s as though we’re clearing out outdated files and making space for new, healthier patterns to form.

This is why MTT can create such profound shifts—often more quickly than traditional talk‑only approaches.

How to Complete a Full Round of Tapping

1. Identify the Issue

Start by naming the emotion you’re feeling. Example: “I feel really angry with my mum.”

 Then explore how this emotion feels in your body:

  • Tightness in the chest
  • Hot and heavy sensation

If possible, refine the feeling and understand why it’s there. Example: “I feel angry with my mum because she never listened to me.”

2. Create Your Set-Up Statement

Your set‑up statement follows a simple structure:

“Even though I feel XYZ, I deeply and completely accept these feelings, and I choose to begin moving forward in a new way…”

  • “Even though…” acknowledges the emotion, thought, or belief you want to address.
  • We pair this with acceptance “…I deeply and completely accept these feelings…”, because the brain needs a sense of safety before it can process change.
  • In MTT, we also add a positive intention, such as: “I choose to begin moving forward in a new way…” (you can specify how you’d like to feel).

Examples of Set‑Up Statements

  • “Even though I’ve held this anger with my mother for so long, I can now see I have every right to feel this way, and I give myself permission to begin expressing myself.”
  • “Even though this pain in my hip is severe, I deeply accept how it feels right now, and I choose to release the feeling of being stuck in the past.”
  • “Even though I have negative false beliefs about myself, I can now see I may have learned these accidentally, and I give myself permission to move forward with love and acceptance.”
  • “Even though I’ve learned to be very controlling, I now see I’m only responsible for my own feelings moment to moment, and I choose to let go of the need to control everything.”

3. Tap the Set‑Up Statement on SI3 (Three Times)

Tap SI3 while repeating your set‑up statement three times.

It’s completely normal if the wording shifts slightly — that flexibility often helps the process feel more natural.

4. Tap Through the Remaining Points

Use short, honest phrases that reflect the emotion. Tap a few times on each meridian point as you make a short statement. If you miss a point, don’t worry — just include it next time.

Example Round

Top of Head (GV20)

“This anger in my chest.”

Eyebrow (BL2)

“She never listened to me.”

Side of Eye (GB1)

“I’ve held this anger for so long.”

Under Eye (ST1)

“It feels so heavy.”

Under Nose (GV27)

“This anger with my mum.”

Chin (CV24)

“I can feel it in my chest.”

Collarbone (KID27)

“This hot, heavy anger.”

Under Arm (SP21)

“I’m holding all this anger.”

Finger (LU11)

“Even though I feel this anger.”

Finger (LI1)

“I deeply and completely accept this feeling.”

Finger (CX9)

“And I deeply and completely accept myself.”

Finger (TW1)

“I choose to move forward, letting go of this anger.”

Finger (H9)

“Feeling free of this anger.”

Finger (SI1)

“Feeling lighter and happier.”

You can repeat this full round two or three times until the emotion begins to soften and feel less distressing.

5. Pause and Check In

Take a moment to breathe and notice any positive shift or lightness in your chest.

It’s very common for new layers to appear at this stage — such as sadness, guilt, or fear. If a new emotion arises, simply create a fresh set‑up statement and begin another round.
